John’s pa dies. He returns to cope with the situation. He drops by Savannah’s house to find out how she’s been, only to damage his heart as he finds out that she is’s married to Tim. That’s the moment when John eventually realizes the ultimate meaning of love – which is to put their happiness before your own. Despite everything that occurred, John does not regret loving Savannah.
