2 veteran cops ( portrayed by Willis and Morgan ) track down a stolen vintage baseball card. While they are on their chase they rescue Gabriela ( Ana de la Reguera ) and deal with mafia and their money laundering.

The film also stars Seann William Scott, Kevin Pollack, Michelle Trachtenberg, Jason Lee, and Adam Brody. Cop Out is the 1st film directed by Kevin Smith in which he didn’t write the script. The other films he wrote and directed are Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Jersey Girl.

The film was meant to star Robin Williams and James Gandolfini. Smith, Willis, and Morgan agreed to a salary cut to secure an R rating. Smith’s income was less than how much he made on his 1999 film Dogma. He directed the movie because he knew it was something his late father would have enjoyed had he been alive. The screenplay of Cop Out was included in a catalogue of the best unproduced scripts called the 2008 Black List.

Kevin Smith accidentally came up with the title. The original title was 2 Cops and they were finishing it in order that they could run the trailer behind Sherlock Holmes on xmas weekend.
